Turkey or Thank?
You may wonder what kind of idea topic this all about? Well reader, you are about to discover the shocking truth behind the story about the Thanksgiving Day thing. What and how the teachers or anyone had taught you was not entirely true. In America, I, Philip Pouliot (Bro. Pouliot) was born and raised in the State of Massachusetts where famous story of the Pilgrims who had arrived in Plymouth Massachusetts in 1620 which Thanksgiving Day holiday had brought up it tradition. A holiday Thanksgiving-Day marks on the fourth Thursday of November. I was taught that Thanksgiving holiday tradition set-aside a time when family and friends come in gathering. A time to remembrance this special festal historical as where we came from and how the Pilgrims and Native Americans became a neighbor to us. How I was told that the Pilgrims and Native Americans together had this huge feeding trimmings meal of turkey, vegetable and pumpkin pie on tables in the 17th century. By the time I was in my late 30s, I’ve discover the shocking truth about Thanksgiving history behind it which disappointed me and sad. I gave up on this so-called Thanksgiving tradition because there were murder that arise this Thanksgiving victory idea that began with it. I no longer go about the Thanksgiving tradition which reader like you are about to find out exactly why.
I remember how my father take me, my brother and sister out to my grandparents place where other family members come in gathering that day to hangout for turkey trimming meals. I remember seeing the living-room television playing this live marching parade that's filled with such dressing Pilgrims, Native Americans Indians classic look and/or other colonial or media characters figures. After the parade, the favorite America football games would play live as well. I remember how the grownup would play poker game. When I in my preteen years, I also remember how we attend to a movie theater later during the end of near day. I have experience and witness all this. I remember very little of how we pray thanks to God for the food, family and everything we have before we start eating the turkey
meals. I used to celebrate all this on Thanksgiving-Day tradition and all the history I have experience seem all good but I didn’t know the whole truth behind it until I was in my late 30’s discovered the shocking truth. My whole family didn't know either.
This shocking truth had convince me also about the other so-called holiday traditions like Easter or Christmas had turns out to be a pagan traditions. This rises me so much questions and even I had asked my self a question about this traditional Thanksgiving-Day holiday, does this thanksgiving holiday mentioned in the scriptures book? The surprising answer is yes and NO. Let, first look into historical fact before pointing out to the scriptures evidence. History had showed me that there is a mixture true and false behind Thanksgiving holiday. At the end of discovery, I have realize that many American today do not certainly know the whole clear historical truth of what really happen back in the very old day. When the Pilgrims first had arrived in America before it was name it country.
When man first established and celebration this Thanksgiving Day holiday which occurred during the 1600s, there was another time that American had established Thanksgiving Day holiday again by doing it annually. Thanksgiving Day was established for a reason to mark it history so American can continue remembering why Thanksgiving Day was so importation to us not to forget where we came from and why America is a new world home. To pass on to their future children by telling them the story. As how we were told how America was born by a small colony of pilgrims from oversea. How they had build the relationship with the Native Americans (Indians) who were already living in their native land before America were called America. The problem is, the story wasn’t fully true after I have discovered the shocking truth. How I realize why Native American wouldn’t established or support the Thanksgiving holidays idea?
Here the story that began in 1614 when a band of English explorers sailed home to England with a ship full of Patuxet Indians bound for slavery. YES, the Indians were brought to England for slavery business. They left behind smallpox which virtually wiped out those who had escaped. No one ever told me about this part of history, but I do remember learning about Indians being salve by white man or how we the people in American far back in time did battle against the Indians on the television media. Not even my former school or parent had taught me this part as well. I remember partly how I was told by them is how the pilgrims who were sailing on sea ship spotted Cape Cod, off the coast of Massachusetts by mistaken. Their famous ship was called “Mayflower” that ends up arrived accident during the stormy weather. They were intended to location at the Virginia coast where other pilgrims had already begun their colonies. While the Mayflower guest of 103 pilgrims had first arrived in Massachusetts Bay, only 56 survived during the first long New England winter. Those number of people maybe just white people. They found only one living Patuxet Indian, a man named Squanto who had survived slavery in England and knew their language. During the pilgrims first spring, it was their first hardships new hope to do better and build their own colony with those who had claimed that the local Native American tribes had help them survive. This part of how the tribes had helped them can be good to be true. Other had said that Squanto who had survived was the one who taught them to grow corn and to fish, and negotiated a peace treaty between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Nation. At the end of their first year surviving, they said that the Pilgrims held a great feast honoring Squanto and the Wampanoags? That is not the case in the other written history
also. The survivors claimed that they had made new friendships with these mystery tribes, and traded with them value things. After reaping their first harvest in the fall of 1621, history say that pilgrims did dedicated a day to thank the the Father who made the heaven and earth for the bounty which they believe He had blessed them with. Yet, this part can’t be true, because other history said that when the word spread in England about the paradise (of the America) they have discovered like another new world, religious zealots called Puritans began arriving by the boat load. Finding no fences around the land, they considered it to be in the public domain. Joined by other British settlers, they seized land, capturing strong young Natives for slaves and killing the rest. But the Pequot Nation had not agreed to the peace treaty Squanto had
negotiated and they fought back. The Pequot War was one of the bloodiest Indian wars ever fought. This part is pretty negative of what or how the foreigner had done to kill or slave somehow had this true story hidden.
Whatever how they had endured within many hardships year by years which came with pioneering of the new land in the beginning, they toiled through building an entire colony from what was simply wilderness. History written by not Indians also say that they were at peace with their neighbors and they were especially grateful for their harvest. To allowed them to gather and store plenteous food and crops for the long and brutal winter season. They claimed that in later time, they had a Thanksgiving festivals because of how they are in a new home land and how they believe heavenly Father had lead them in the new world. Yet, the problem here is the good friendship neighbors they claimed they had during that time may be too good to be true. Because they had battle one another. Plus there other historical facts explained that the pilgrims didn’t really set or make this such as the Thanksgiving Day based on turkey dinner but how happy they murder the Indians. History said that William Bradford who was a governor during mid-1600s which proclaimed and establish a day of Thanksgiving-Day. He established that day to honor heavenly Father and prepared a great feast to enjoy with the neighboring Native American tribes which this was so wrong to trick people mind about what the real reason they established this holiday mark.
In the year 1637, where the present day near Groton, Connecticut, over 700 men, women and children of the Pequot Tribe had gathered for their annual Green Corn Festival which was the kind of their Thanksgiving celebration day. In the predawn hours the sleeping Indians were surrounded by English and Dutch mercenaries who ordered them to come outside. Those who came out were shot or clubbed to death while the terrified women and children who huddled inside the longhouse were burned alive. The next day the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony declared "A Day Of Thanksgiving" because 700 unarmed men, women and children had been murdered. Cheered by their "victory", the brave colonists and their Indian allies attacked village after village. Women and children over 14 were sold into slavery while the rest were murdered. Boats loaded with a many as 500 slaves regularly left the ports of New England. Bounties were paid for Indian scalps to encourage as many deaths as possible. Following an especially successful raid against the Pequot in what is now Stamford, Connecticut, the churches announced a second day of "thanksgiving" to celebrate victory over the heathen savages. There more story along this and I have a reason to believe this is so true, because their is many other story I have heard about white man battle against the Native American.
The killings became more and more frenzied, with days of thanksgiving feasts being held after each successful massacre. George Washington finally suggested that only one day of Thanksgiving per year be set aside instead of celebrating each and every massacre. Later Abraham Lincoln decreed Thanksgiving Day to be a legal national holiday during the Civil War - on the same day he ordered troops to march against the starving Sioux in Minnesota.
Native American have fought against the pilgrims whom they were alien to them in the beginning. Because of how they were treat badly and disrespectful to their rightful land for many generations. Being slave and calling them bad name. If Christopher Columbus discovered the island Hispaniola, which present day called Haiti/Dominican Republic as part of America territory in 1492, the whole trouble between white man and the Indian may never happen.
This story doesn't have quite the same fuzzy feelings associated with it as the one where the Indians and Pilgrims are all sitting down together at the big feast. But we need to learn our true history so it won't ever be repeated. Children are being taught that Christopher Columbus was a national hero but he may have murderer them. How many American do not know that part being only taught that Columbus was a hero who discovered and arrived America turns out to be untrue.
According to history, Columbus had only made 4 trips which is part of America territory. He only set a foot on an island Hispaniola, which present day called Haiti/Dominican Republic, Juana which present day called Cuba, San Juan Bautista which present day called Puerto Rico and Santiago which present day called Jamaica.
There are numeral of historical of other colonists story tells me that we had treat Native American unfairly and murder them as well. Little by little change had come to America lifestyle by war and law, this country where we living today no longer rule or roam by the Native people who had lives here first before us.
In time of October 3rd, 1789, George Washington as the first president of America had made the following proclamation and created the first Thanksgiving Day holiday to designated by the national government. Even during the middle of the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln, prompted by a series of editorials written by Sarah Josepha Hale, proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day, to be celebrated on the final Thursday in November 1863.
Here another supering truth, our heavenly Father would not approves this invent Thanksgiving Day idea any way. Since nowhere in the holy scriptures book teaches about this Thanksgiving Day as the holiday time to remember of. Scriptures evidence about how we to give thank is not this kind of Thanksgiving tradition. He forbidden man to establishing a holiday idol. Evidence also showed me that we shouldn’t lusting over any tradition of man that was made by their own. This mean the great trimmings feast Thanksgiving Day traditional holiday is a pagan origin holiday. We already have a real feast holidays thank to honor our heavenly Father.
Feast holidays in the book of Leviticus 23:1-44 (NKJV) explains there. This scripture tells me that there is seven different kinds feast holiday comments by the heavenly Father. You may discover that any of the scriptures of the feast hoilday does not match up to what Thanksgiving Day holiday that America had been tradition about for years.
SCRIPTURE PASSAGE FOR THE SEVEN FEASTS
1. And the heavenly Host spoke to Moses, saying,
2. "Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them:
'The feasts of the Almighty One, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts.
3. 'Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of the Almighty in all your dwellings.
4. 'These are the feasts of the heavenly Father, holy convocations which you shall proclaim at their appointed times.
5 On the fourteenth day of the first month at twilight is the heavenly Father’s Passover.
2. THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD
6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the Father in heaven; seven days you must eat unleavened bread.
7. On the first day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it.
8. But you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Almighty for seven days. The seventh day shall be a holy convocation; you shall do no customary work on it.' "
9. And the heavenly host spoke to Moses, saying,
3. THE FEAST OF FIRSTFRUITS
10. "Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: 'When you come into the land which I give to you, and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest.
11. He shall wave the sheaf before the heavenly Father, to be accepted on your behalf; on the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it.
12. And you shall offer on that day, when you wave the sheaf, a male lamb of the first year, without blemish, as a burnt offering to the heavenly Father.
13 Its grain offering shall be two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil, an offering made by fire to the Lord, for a sweet aroma; and its drink offering shall be of wine, one-fourth of a hin.
14 You shall eat neither bread nor parched grain nor fresh grain until the same day that you have brought an offering to your Almighty One; it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
4. THE FEAST OF PENTECOST (WEEKS)
15. 'And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering: seven Sabbaths shall be completed.
16 Count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall offer a new grain offering to the heavenly Father.
17. You shall bring from your dwellings two wave loaves of two-tenths of an ephah. They shall be of fine flour; they shall be baked with leaven. They are the firstfruits to the Almighty.
18. And you shall offer with the bread seven lambs of the first year, without blemish, one young bull, and two rams. They shall be as a burnt offering to the Almighty, with their grain offering and their drink offerings, an offering made by fire for a sweet aroma to the heavenly Father.
19. Then you shall sacrifice one kid of the goats as a sin offering, and two male lambs of the first year as a sacrifice of a peace offering.
20. The priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits as a wave offering before the Almighty, with the two lambs. They shall be holy to the heavenly Father for the priest.
21. And you shall proclaim on the same day that it is a holy convocation to you. You shall do no customary work on it. It shall be a statute forever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.
22 'When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field when you reap, nor shall you gather any gleaning from your harvest. You shall leave them for the poor and for the stranger: I am the Creator Father.
5. THE FEAST OF TRUMPETS
23. Then the heavenly host spoke to Moses, saying,
24. "Speak to the children of Israel, saying: 'In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a Sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.
25 You shall do no customary work on it; and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the heavenly Father.' "
6. THE DAY OF ATONEMENT
26 And the heavenly Father spoke to Moses, saying:
27 "Also the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement. It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to the Almighty Father.
28 And you shall do no work on that same day, for it is the Day of Atonement, to make atonement for you before the Father, your Creator One.
29 For any person who is not afflicted in soul on that same day shall be cut off from his people. 30 And any person who does any work on that same day, that person I will destroy from among his people.
31 You shall do no manner of work; it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
32 It shall be to you a Sabbath of solemn rest, and you shall afflict your souls; on the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you shall celebrate your Sabbath."
7. THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES
33. Then the heavenly Father spoke to Moses, saying,
34. "Speak to the children of Israel, saying: 'The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days to the heavenly Father.
35 On the first day there shall be a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work on it.
36 For seven days you shall offer an offering made by fire to the mighty Father. On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation, and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Almighty. It is a sacred assembly, and you shall do no customary work on it.
37 These are the feasts of the heavenly Father which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire to the Almighty, a burnt offering and a grain offering, a sacrifice and drink offerings, everything on its day--
38 besides the Sabbaths of the heavenly Father, besides your gifts, besides all your vows, and besides all your freewill offerings which you give to the Almighty.
39 'Also on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the fruit of the land, you shall keep the feast of the Almighty for seven days; on the first day there shall be a Sabbath-rest, and on the eighth day a Sabbath-rest.
40 And you shall take for yourselves on the first day the fruit of beautiful trees, branches of palm trees, the boughs of leafy trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before the Almighty, your Creator One for seven days.
41 You shall keep it as a feast to the Almighty for seven days in the year. It shall be a statute forever in your generations. You shall celebrate it in the seventh month.
42 You shall dwell in booths for seven days. All who are native Israelites shall dwell in booths,
43 that your generations may know that I made the children of Israel dwell in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the Father in Heaven, your Creator One.' "
44 So Moses declared to the children of Israel the feasts of the heavenly Father.
Notice how the Feast of Shelters is known as Feast of Tabernacles or Feast of Ingathering nor Feast of Dedication, which an annual holy feast, established by the Creator One at Mt. Sinai. Feast of Shelter (Tabernacle) is the day when every one of Creator Almighty's people was to gather to worship Him. They have this feast of offering and to worship Him. Pray for forgiving of sins and give thanks. This is almost like our modern Thanksgiving Day holiday. Yet, this Feast of Shelter is not on the same annually day marking as our Thanksgiving Day November month. Feast of Shelter (Tabernacle) really happen on the Jew/Israel calendar of the 7th month of the 15th day. This happens during our Roman-Gregorian October month.
Now let look at how the book of Esther's feasts holiday shows differ from the seven feasts that explains in the book of Leviticus. Notice how the whole chapter of Esther does not mention any word about Almighty name or it title while the people who follow Esther may surely have their own way to inspiration and honoring the Almighty, (the one who made the heaven and earth) which wasn't what was instituted to Moses at the time. When Mordecai and Esther have established the “Feast of Purim” the day that was their yearly commemoration of the Jews is overcoming persecution from Haman, the prime minister of King Ahasuerus other than what of our Almighty had already established and instituted. Notice Mordecai’s and Esther’s proclamation, confirming the keeping of this day: “And that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the memorial of them perish from their seed”. During Esther days, they were not observing correctly with the same degree of how to honoring and reverence what heavenly Father's teaches specificity parts of the Master Plan of salvation. Rather than how Esther and her people had established to celebrations a day like any other holiday that were established simply for remembering important national events. The kind of holiday that Esther had celebrate this ‘Feast of Purim’ is not one of the seven feasts holiday as Almighty did not instituted at Mt. Sinai after Israel came out of Egypt. However, the biblical scripture does explains how people have fallen away from heavenly Father's teaching end up became slave to man because of how they ignore or forgotten His way. This is where I believe we are living a time that we have forgotten His way again.
The examples which Moses in the Old Covenant/Testament and Christ in the New Covenant/Testament shows that Almighty permits that customs commemorating honorable moments in national history be kept—but only if they are kept in control, done in a proper manner and kept free of any pagan influence! The Thanksgiving Day holiday we have today is not an example of what Moses or Messiah would have done to practice but we morally alone did. This The Thanksgiving Day holiday is an idol-ism pagan holiday and heavenly Father forbidden it.
The only thing left to find out what the biblical scripture says about doing thanksgiving prayer towards the Almighty One above. Book of Psalms 107:1, 8-9 said...
“Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto Him with psalms” (95:2) or “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name” (100:4), nor “O give thanks unto the Almighty, for He is good: for His mercy endures forever…Oh that men would praise the Almighty for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness”.
Creator Father has bestowed King David and on us—simply because of how His merciful LOVE, and how He promise Abraham, the father of the faithful (Gal. 3:6-9).
Thanksgiving every day should be done regularly.
In fact, heaven Father even COMMANDS that we do so.
In the Old Covenant/Testament day, the Creator’s people were required to sacrifice animals (such as lambs, rams, goats, etc.), and offer them as burnt offerings to Him. These sacrifices took place in conjunction with repentance for sins, and asking for HIS forgiveness. Sacrifices took place regularly, and served as a constant reminder of obedience towards Almighty. Yet Almighty did not require sacrifices because it pleased Him. In fact, it was done to picture the ultimate sacrifice that was yet to come—the Messiah, the Lamb of the Almighty One (John 1:29). At Messiah’s death, the ritualistic practices that were part of the Old Covenant were done away. Messiah’s sacrifice had shed blood truly washed away humanity’s penalty for sins—death. However, Creator One in heaven still requires the offering of a certain kind of sacrifice today. Psalms 50:13-14, states, “I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Almighty” (116:17), and, “Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats? Offer unto Almighty thanksgiving; and pay your vows unto the most High”. These verses clearly explain that Almighty One has no need of “the flesh of bulls, or the blood of goats” that would be offered in a sacrifice. Instead, He wants us to offer Him sacrifices of thanksgiving and praise! David understood this, and even appointed certain Levite priests the specific duty of thanking and praising the Almighty: “And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the Almighty, and to record, and to thank and praise the Creator Almighty of Israel” (I Chron. 16:4). Chapter 23 of First Chronicles further explains the Levites’ duties. Verse 30 states that they were to “stand every morning to thank and praise the Almighty, and likewise at even.”
There are rule of how we say or pray. Apostle Paul wrote, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto Almighty” (Phil. 4:6). John also said, “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Messiah” (Eph. 5:20). These great servants of heavenly Father gave thanks, and recorded their examples for us to follow today.
Our heavenly Father do wants—and expects—from us these same sacrifices of thanksgiving through our actions and prayers. As what Paul recalled wrote: “Giving thanks always for all things unto Almighty Father and his Son the Messiah” (Eph. 5:20). Paul also further explains, “Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of the Almighty One in Messiah concerning you” (First Thes. 5:16-18).
So this is how I came to all in exploring, research and learning the clear truth behind about Thanksgiving Holiday. I no longer practice the America Thanksgiving holiday but that dose not mean I would forget about the history of Pilgrims who had arrived the new world (country) of America.
Some people would ask me what would I do if my job is closed because of this so-called holiday, I would simply tell him or her that it would still be another working day I can do at home to do my personal working day. To do house chore or do business work at home.
The last thing I would also like to share with everyone is that I believe there is a real special annual thanksgiving day. That day seem more likely to happen on the Passover day. Yes, Passover Day seem to be the better top thanksgiving day. As special annual memorial day to remember why our Almighty One brought His Son, the Messiah to earth to salvation us from sin by dieing one the cross and why the chosen one had lead His people out of Egypt as well.
This is where I would like everyone to check in the Old Covenant book about Passover story that centers on Creator Father’s deliverance of Israel from Egypt through ten miraculous plagues. These included how the angel of death would “pass over” all the houses where the Israelites lived. They were instructed to put blood over their doorposts to ensure that only the firstborn of Egypt would die. In this first Passover, it was only the blood of the slain lamb that protected each Israelite home. While Egypt suffered the plague of death, the Israelite firstborn were delivered by blood. By obeying Almighty’s command and by faith in His promise to protect them, they were spared from death.
This Passover account found in book of Exodus 12:12-14. Verse 14 states that the Passover ceremony was commanded by God to be an annual memorial feast to be kept by Israel “forever”. (This command is repeated also in Leviticus 23:5.) Exodus 12:15 introduces the seven-day festival as it is called the Days of Unleavened Bread (also repeated in Leviticus 23:6-8), which was to immediately follow the Passover feast each year. This is why Acts 12:3 have states, “Then were the days of unleavened bread,” before mentioning the Passover in the next verse. These days were always kept in conjunction with one another.
Since the Old Covenant had instituted us the Passover to be use forever, then the New Covenant is to be observance as well. This instruction is found in First Corinthians 5:7-8: “Purge out therefore the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened. For even Messiah our Passover is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast (of unleavened bread, which always followed Passover, as explained above)…”
Understand that Messiah, as the Lamb of the Almighty (John 1:29; Acts 8:32; I Peter 1:19; Rev. 5:6), replaced the Old Covenant lamb eaten on Passover evening each year. The New Covenant where clear instructions are given regarding how often the Passover ordinance should be observed? There is! First Corinthians 5:7-8 sets the stage for later instructions from the apostle Paul that we will review momentarily. These verses state, “Messiah our Passover is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven…but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”
Today, to me it sad that we have taken the Indian's land and kind of destroy the beady of the nature that they used to live peacefully. So the question here, are you going for the TURKEY or give Thank to the heavenly Father on the right holiday season? Please tell other about this truth.
